How video helped Hack Club create an engaging summer program

Hack Club, a worldwide network of high school coding clubs, needed a better way to run an online summer program when the pandemic shut down its in-person activities. Instead of simply moving a summer camp to Zoom, the nonprofit wanted a more engaging virtual experience that could help students stay consistent, share progress, and feel connected to a community.

To solve this, Hack Club used Mux to add a smooth video experience to its Summer Scrapbook, an app for collecting daily student updates and media. Mux made video playback fast and easy to implement, with a working demo built in just 15 minutes; four weeks into the program, the Summer Scrapbook had more than 2,000 posts from 500 teenagers.
