Scaling Design Culture Globally

IBM Belgium turned to Mural to scale design thinking and digital collaboration across its globally distributed workforce. Faced with heavy reliance on costly in-person sessions, scheduling and travel headaches, mental fatigue from multi-day workshops, and difficulties making workshops inclusive, IBM Belgium needed a way to make design and agile practices core competencies and enable co-creation across hundreds of thousands of employees.

Mural provided a digital co-creation platform and virtual studios that helped designers and non-designers run asynchronous, inclusive workshops and accelerate adoption of design practices. Using Mural shortened learning curves and increased design-driven work while delivering measurable savings: $16.4M in reduced travel costs, $3.8M in IT productivity value, and $2.7M avoided supplies/facilities costs over three years (risk-adjusted), alongside greater participation and faster iteration.
