IBM's Best Practices for Remote Facilitation

IBM Belgium, part of the global IBM organization with nearly 400,000 employees, faced the challenge of running effective design-thinking and facilitation sessions across distributed and hybrid teams. To keep workshops productive and aligned, they adopted Mural’s digital collaboration platform—using MURAL templates, a facilitator guide, and remote workshop tools to run both in-person and remote sessions.

Mural provided structured templates, time-boxed exercises, and digital transition practices that increased engagement, preserved session outputs for absent participants, and maintained momentum after meetings. As a result, IBM Belgium found Mural was often preferred even for colocated 30–60 minute sessions, improving participation, continuity, and the ability to capture and reuse outcomes across teams.
