UCSF Medical Center develops CareWeb Next generation messaging platform, powered by MuleSoft & Salesforce

UCSF Medical Center, a leading academic hospital with hundreds of thousands of patient visits annually, faced an outdated pager-based communication system that forced one-way, text-only messages, extra devices for staff, and poor coordination across care teams. With roughly 8,000 caregivers needing real-time, auditable, HIPAA‑compliant collaboration, UCSF required a modern two-way platform that unified patient communications and integrated clinical workflows.

UCSF built CareWeb Messenger on Salesforce 1 Platform and MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform to connect Epic EMR, mobile and cloud systems, store threaded messages under each patient record, and enable secure web and mobile messaging. After a successful pilot, the hospital is rolling out the solution enterprise-wide, eliminating pagers, increasing timely team communication, lowering operating costs, and improving the flow of information that supports better patient outcomes.
