The State of Colorado, which serves over 5 million residents, faced a tight six‑month deadline to build an online benefits system after choosing a state-run ACA marketplace and expanding Medicaid. Legacy, disconnected systems forced manual re-entry and long eligibility delays, and the state needed a modern, citizen-friendly platform that could scale without adding staff.

Colorado extended its PEAK citizen portal on Salesforce and used MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform to integrate federal and state systems for real‑time eligibility checks. The solution launched on time, processed more than 277,000 applications in the first six months, doubled monthly throughput from 30,000 to 60,000 with the same staffing budget, delivered real‑time determinations for 70% of cases, and saved an estimated $5 million in employee time.
