Mule beats Oracle, others for integrating with Oracle ERP

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), one of South Africa’s largest research universities with over 30,000 students and 500 direct users of its central student system, needed to migrate its core student and HR functions from an aging Oracle ERP instance to Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. The project required a reliable integration layer to decouple systems, split a single massive Oracle instance, and keep services running during a phased migration without adopting a large, complex SOA suite.

Wits selected Mule ESB as the central integration platform for its lightweight, Java-friendly architecture and ease of deployment. Mule mediated between split Oracle instances and ancillary systems, supported transactional and batch use cases with high reliability, and enabled faster rollouts with minimal custom code. The result was robust, scalable integration that simplified development, preserved service continuity during migration, and paved the way for improved student self-service and future application integrations.
