Legal & General’s General Insurance (L&G GI) set out to become a market leader in digital insurance but was held back by slow, costly point-to-point integrations. The business needed fast, scalable access to claims, policy and billing data to improve customer and adviser experiences, speed up partner onboarding, lower costs and increase sales.
L&G GI adopted MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform and an API‑led approach to build SmartQuote, a mobile tool that pulls ~400 data points via APIs to deliver an accurate home insurance quote in 90 seconds from five questions. Exposing reusable APIs to partners doubled sales opportunities, sped product delivery 2.5× (with 60–70% API reuse), cut maintenance costs by 15%, and earned industry innovation awards.
