BP, one of the world’s largest energy companies, needed to modernize legacy systems and speed digital delivery to meet growing demand for low‑emission, digitally enabled energy services. BP’s IT&S set goals to unlock data and apps, shift IT toward enabling the business, and create a Center for Enablement (C4E) to drive an API-first approach.
BP adopted an API strategy with MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform and launched a C4E to let product teams self-serve integrations. The approach enabled faster rollouts of products like BPme, Air BP, Strala and Operator Workbench, delivered over 100 APIs, doubled app development speed, supported 290,000 BPme transactions daily and more than 1 million BPme downloads in the first year, while increasing API reuse and regional rollout velocity.
