A Mubaloo Case Study
MTR Crossrail, the operator awarded the £1.4 billion Crossrail franchise serving some 200 million passengers a year across 40 stations, needed to demonstrate operational innovation and improve staff and passenger safety, punctuality and station audits — challenges made harder by mixed above‑ and below‑ground routes where GPS is unreliable. MTR Crossrail engaged Mubaloo (via Mubaloo Innovation Lab) to explore Bluetooth Beacon technology and custom mobile apps to provide precise proximity-based location and workflow triggers.
Mubaloo built native iOS apps (including Spotlight Audit and Driver Advisory), deployed what became the largest enterprise beacon rollout in the world, and used its cloud-based MiBeacons Platform to deliver real‑time content updates without app releases. The solution helped MTR Crossrail secure the franchise (beacon use was cited as a deciding factor), improved on‑platform auditing, reduced driver distractions and supported timetable adherence across 700 services per day — delivering measurable operational efficiency and an ongoing innovation programme with Mubaloo.
