A Mubaloo Case Study
Hargreaves Lansdown, one of the UK’s leading independent financial service providers, faced a dramatic rise in mobile traffic between 2008 and 2010—a 236% increase in smartphone visits—and wanted to position itself as a technology leader by offering a tailored mobile experience. To capitalise on the smartphone trend and enable investors to manage funds and shares on the go, Hargreaves approached Mubaloo to build the HL Live Mobile app for iPhone and Android.
Mubaloo worked with Hargreaves Lansdown to design a mobile-first user experience, integrate multiple third‑party and HL APIs (and help create mobile‑optimised HL APIs), and deliver a secure, usable app in nine months that lets customers view market data, manage portfolios, set watchlists and place trades. The HL Live app helped users take investment decisions from their phones (including some customers opening ISAs via mobile), has been continually supported and upgraded, and led to a follow‑on HL Live for iPad project in 2013—demonstrating Mubaloo’s measurable impact on HL’s mobile proposition.
