A Mubaloo Case Study
Alamy, one of the world’s largest stock photography agencies, engaged Mubaloo to reach a new mobile audience and make it simple for photographers to submit and sell mobile-shot images. The challenge was to build a mobile-first experience that enabled quick uploads, intuitive tagging/captioning, and clear visibility that contributors could earn money from their work — which led to developing the Stockimo app for iPhone.
Mubaloo delivered the Stockimo iPhone app that lets users upload, tag and caption photos for expert review and scoring; approved images are sold through Alamy’s site and distribution network while contributors retain copyright. The impact was rapid: in six months over 140,000 images were submitted and 70,000 approved, rising to 132,000 approved within a year, nearly 10,000 active photographers submitting about 2,800 photos per week, and Stockimo images selling at higher rates per 1,000 photos than SLR submissions — demonstrating Mubaloo’s pivotal role in driving Alamy’s mobile photography growth.
