Virtual Prototyping Accelerates the Design Process of a new Modular Based Weapon

Benelli Armi S.p.A. partnered with MSC Software to develop the VINCI, a conceptually new modular semi-automatic shotgun. The challenge was to create a highly customizable weapon with an integrated recoil reduction system that would remain reliable across a wide range of cartridge energies while meeting strict quality and ergonomic requirements.

MSC Software used Adams for multibody dynamics simulation and Marc for structural analysis to build, calibrate, and optimize virtual prototypes before creating physical ones. This approach helped Benelli Armi reduce the number of prototypes and experimental tests, shorten development time, lower project costs, and achieve a successful launch that earned the VINCI the “Shotgun of the Year Award 2010” and generated three new patents.
