Triple Eight Race Engineering - Customer Case Study

Triple Eight Race Engineering, the Vauxhall BTCC team and technical partner to GM’s UK motorsport arm, needed to design a completely new Vauxhall Vectra to meet the 2007 S2000 touring car regulations. With no time for traditional build-and-test development, the team turned to MSC Software and its simulation tools, including Patran and MD Nastran, to create a competitive car from the ground up.

MSC Software used MD Nastran and Patran to analyze and optimize key areas such as the suspension, damper-strut, anti-roll bar, and integrated roll cage/shell structure. The simulation-driven approach cut design time, improved stiffness and durability, and gave the team confidence to build the shell before certification testing. The result was immediate success: the Vauxhall Vectra won its second race, helped secure two championship titles in 2007, and went on to win all three titles in 2008.
