Ticona - Customer Case Study

Ticona GmbH, a solutions-driven producer of high performance plastics, faced the challenge of accurately modeling fiber reinforced plastic parts for its automotive customers. They needed predictive FEA results that relied on a single, unique material model valid for all types of different load cases. To address this, they worked with MSC Software and utilized the Digimat platform, specifically Digimat-MF, Digimat-CAE, Digimat-MAP, and Digimat-MX.

The solution from MSC Software involved calibrating a unique elastoplastic micromechanical Digimat model based on material testing. This multi-scale approach, which integrated fiber orientation data from injection molding simulations, correctly described two different load cases without needing separate scaling factors. The result was a highly accurate prediction of the structural response and failure location for a sun roof bearing, which correlated well with experimental data. This provided Ticona with a method to deliver faster and higher quality CAE predictions to meet their customers' design needs.
