Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation - Customer Case Study

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a leader in advanced helicopter design and manufacturing, needed a better way to handle intermittent nonlinear contact analysis without creating bottlenecks in the design process. Engineers using MSC.Nastran had to rely on separate MSC.Marc models and specialized training, which slowed down analysis and often sent work to dedicated analysts. MSC Software’s MSC.Nastran 2004 Implicit Nonlinear was the product used to address this challenge.

MSC Software implemented Solution 600, which integrates MSC.Nastran and MSC.Marc solvers so engineers can run nonlinear contact analysis directly in the familiar MSC.Nastran/MSC.Patran environment. This eliminated the need to build separate MSC.Marc Mentat models, reduced training requirements, and let many more engineers perform contact analysis themselves. Sikorsky reported time savings and, importantly, gained the ability to estimate true buckling strength more accurately within MSC.Nastran, improving analysis speed and reducing design bottlenecks.
