Scania Improves Heavy Truck Designs

Scania, a leading manufacturer of trucks and buses, faced the challenge of ensuring that each unique vehicle configuration built from its modular system would deliver the required handling, comfort, and fatigue life. The traditional process of building and physically testing each design was costly and time-consuming. To address this, Scania turned to vendor MSC Software and its Adams/Car simulation solution to evaluate designs virtually early in the process.

By implementing MSC Software's Adams/Car, Scania engineers were able to create virtual prototypes and simulate performance on test rigs and tracks, exploring a much greater number of design alternatives. The solution provided measurable results, with simulation accuracy within 5% of physical test rig measurements. MSC Software's technology enabled Scania to significantly improve vehicle handling, comfort, and fatigue life, reduce stress levels in components to extend their life, and identify potential problems early for correction on the virtual model, saving considerable time and cost.
