A MSC Software Case Study
Rhodia Engineering Plastics, a supplier of polyamide engineering plastics, needed to accurately model the influence of fiber orientation in their reinforced materials to better support their customers' design processes. Their challenge was to provide superior material data for simulations, specifically for impact performance, which required a solution that could correctly capture the material's complex anisotropic behavior.
MSC Software provided a solution using their Digimat platform, specifically Digimat-MF, Digimat-CAE, and Digimat-MX. The solution involved calibrating a material model and coupling it with fiber orientation data from an injection molding analysis. The results showed an excellent correlation with experimental impact tests, accurately predicting maximum force and its timing. This demonstrated the crucial importance of accounting for fiber orientation, allowing Rhodia to offer highly reliable predictive simulations to its customers.
