A MSC Software Case Study
PROTON, Malaysia’s largest automaker, needed a better way to improve the virtual development of mechanical and structural vehicle components without relying on repeated, costly build-and-test prototype cycles. The team, led by head of CAE Noor Hisham Bin Ismail, sought more accurate simulation methods to assess risk, capture potential failures, and reduce dependence on too many design variations. MSC Software provided MSC FEA tools, including MSC Nastran, Patran, and MSC Adams, to support this effort.
With MSC Software’s simulation and probabilistic analysis capabilities, PROTON built a reliability engineering framework that quantified design risk, identified high-risk areas, and supported design optimization and comparison of alternatives. By combining finite element analysis, multi-run studies, and Monte Carlo simulation, PROTON improved its ability to assess variability and failure probability earlier in development. The result was reduced testing cycles, lower costs, improved quality, and faster time-to-market.
