Omni-Lite Optimizes Manufacturing Process of Automotive Rivet using Simulation Software

Omni-Lite Industries, a rapidly growing advanced materials company, used MSC Software’s Simufact.forming to improve the development of an automotive rivet made from 1008 material. The part was cold formed in a five-die progression on a Nakashimada TH5-6A, but the initial tooling design produced a deep fold during second-station tryout that quality control would not accept.

MSC Software’s simulation software reproduced the fold, helping Omni-Lite identify the cause in the material flow and redesign the progression with an additional station. The updated process formed the square head in the second station and added the counter-bore in a third, and physical tryout confirmed a correct part with no folds. Omni-Lite said Simufact.forming helped shorten process development time considerably, respond faster to customer requirements, and design new products faster.
