MSC Software helps Scania Reduce Cabin Noise in Trucks

Scania, one of the world’s leading truck manufacturers, wanted to reduce cabin noise in its trucks while meeting stricter demands from customers and regulations. The company’s Complete Vehicle Acoustic department needed better ways to understand wind noise, powertrain noise, and rolling noise, and it aimed to use more simulations instead of relying mainly on measurements and tests. To support this work, Scania chose Actran and MSC Nastran from MSC Software.

MSC Software helped Scania use MSC Nastran for structural dynamics and Actran for acoustic simulation, including acoustic load, trim modeling, and cabin response. Scania combined simulation results with a dedicated listening studio to compare designs earlier in development and reduce the need for physical testing. The company said this gave managers a better way to make cabin design decisions and helped improve the driving experience while making the design process more efficient.
