MSC Software Helps Giant Magellan Telescope Discover the Universe

Giant Magellan Telescope is building a 200-foot-high telescope in Chile to answer major questions about the universe, but its engineers had to account for earthquakes, high winds, and the complexity of moving mirrors and a large dome structure. To help simplify and shorten the design and simulation workflow, the team used MSC Software’s MSC Apex.

MSC Software’s MSC Apex gave the team an integrated tool for importing geometry, prepping, meshing, analysis, and post-processing. The software helped identify wind dynamics issues during design, saving time and increasing productivity, while also becoming a critical part of the telescope’s engineering process.
