MSC Apex Used to Reduce Geometry Cleanup of Fuel Pump Components from Two Days to One Hour

Dynetics Technical Services, Inc. used MSC Apex to help repurpose CAD geometry for fuel pump components used on the RS-25 and other rocket engine systems for NASA’s Space Launch System. The team was dealing with geometry pathologies, arbitrary segment lines, dense NURBS surfaces, and other data-transfer issues that made mesh preparation slow and difficult.

Using MSC Apex Modeler, Dynetics Technical Services, Inc. removed unwanted boundary edges in a single step, sketched new surface boundaries, and created a global solid element mesh with curvature-based refinement and topological congruency. In one demo, MSC Apex reduced geometry cleanup from two days to one hour, and W. Scott Taylor said the software was easier to use than other CAD healing and CAD-CAE meshing tools he had used.
