Case Study: DEMA SpA reduces aircraft door damage analysis time with MSC Apex

A MSC Software Case Study

Preview of the DEMA SpA Case Study

MSC Apex reduces time required to analyze aircraft avionics door for damage scenarios by 60%

DEMA SpA, a major aerospace supplier, needed to evaluate an innovative avionics bay pressurized door for multiple damage scenarios while preserving a sufficient safety margin for in-flight structural requirements. The analysis had to support regular inspection protocols, and the existing process for modifying geometry, meshing, and running simulations was time-consuming. DEMA worked with MSC Software and MSC Apex to address the challenge.

Using MSC Apex Modeler, DEMA engineers edited the door geometry directly and the mesh was updated automatically. MSC Software helped reduce the time to build all four damage scenarios from 80 hours to 32 hours, and the time to modify geometry for one scenario fell from 16 hours to 4 hours, a 75% reduction. DEMA also projected that MSC Apex Structures would cut total time for all four scenarios to 26 hours, a 67.5% reduction from the previous method.
