More Practical, Accurate Wind Simulation Diversifies the Application of Wind Engineering

WindStyle Corporation, a consulting specialist in wind engineering, needed a practical way to evaluate wind around high-rise residential and office buildings without relying only on wind tunnel tests. The company used MSC Software’s scSTREAM to simulate wind flow around planned buildings and their surrounding environments, helping it assess whether new construction would adversely affect local conditions.

Using MSC Software’s scSTREAM, WindStyle built detailed models from aerial surveys, Google Earth, fieldwork, and SketchUp data, then ran CFD analyses across 16 compass points and at least 32 cases. The company combined CFD with wind tunnel testing to compare results and improve accuracy, while also using scSTREAM’s compatibility, customization, and support to present clearer reports to clients and partners who were not familiar with CFD.
