Leyland Trucks - Customer Case Study

Leyland Trucks, a wholly owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc., designs and manufactures light- and medium-size trucks for brands including Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF, and Foden. As truck designs evolved with new materials, disc brakes, and more complex configurations, the company needed a better way to evaluate load cases, dynamic behavior, and difficult manoeuvres than static load testing and trial-and-error methods.

Leyland Trucks used MSC Software’s Adams to build detailed truck simulations covering chassis, suspension, steering, cab motion, braking, ride comfort, and coupling operations. MSC Software helped Leyland Trucks replace some expensive physical prototype testing, identify critical operating conditions, and cut one design cycle from 6 years to 4 years, with the LF vehicle finished in two-thirds the time of its predecessor.
