JSOL Corporation - Customer Case Study

JSOL Corporation, the largest LS-DYNA reseller in Japan, needed to better model the critical influence of glass fiber orientation in plastic automotive parts to achieve weight savings and support greener technology. To tackle this challenge, they partnered with vendor MSC Software and utilized its DIGIMAT material modeling platform.

The solution from MSC Software involved using Digimat-MF to calibrate an elasto-plastic material model and Digimat-CAE with the LS-DYNA interface to simulate an engine backfire load case. This multi-scale approach accounted for the fiber orientations from the injection molding process. The results showed significant differences in stress distribution compared to a standard isotropic simulation, revealing that the fiber-reinforced part had lower stresses. This indicated the part was over-designed, demonstrating the potential for MSC Software's solution to enable further weight savings in the design cycle.
