How Simulation Propelled Pratt & Miller into New Markets

Pratt & Miller, a motorsports engineering company that expanded into automotive and defense markets, needed to develop fully engineered vehicles under very tight deadlines. To meet these compressed schedules, they turned to MSC Software and its Adams and Adams/Car multibody dynamics simulation tools to help evaluate vehicle performance before complete CAD models or physical prototypes were available.

Using MSC Software’s Adams/Car, Pratt & Miller was able to design and tune suspensions, generate loads for FEA, and virtually test complete vehicle configurations in a fraction of the time of traditional build-and-test methods. The approach helped the company deliver a military showcase vehicle in just 12 weeks, complete major simulation work in about five weeks, and grow its Engineering Services Division from a standing start to eight-digit revenues, with engineering staff increasing by 122 people in seven years.
