Fimtextile Weaves Simulation into Product Development Process

Fimtextile, an Italian manufacturer of shedding motions for weaving machines, needed to design highly compact, high-speed mechanisms that could handle strong impacts and flexible components without compromising performance. To address this challenge, Fimtextile worked with MSC Software and used MSC.ADAMS, ADAMS/Flex, ADAMS/Durability, and MSC.Nastran to simulate cam motions, rotary dobbies, and selection mechanisms early in the design process.

MSC Software enabled Fimtextile to build virtual prototypes, analyze flexible parts and impacts, and optimize machine dynamics before physical builds. The result was fewer physical prototypes, faster design iterations, improved product quality and stability, and reduced development time by several months in some cases; Fimtextile also reported that its “virtual test” had effectively become a reality.
