Case Study: Aeronautical Development Agency Achieves Flutter Clearance with MSC Software

A MSC Software Case Study

Aeronautical Development Agency - Customer Case Study

Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) needed to certify an imported fighter aircraft for carrying a new under-wing store, which required determining unsteady airloads and flutter behavior across different altitudes and speeds. MSC Software helped ADA tackle this challenge using Patran and MSC Nastran Aeroelasticity to support FE modeling and flutter analysis.

MSC Software’s solution used ground vibration test (GVT) data to update the structural model via MSC Nastran DMAP, then coupled it with a 2D aerodynamic model for flutter calculations. The approach was validated against a full FE model with close correlation, and the new store’s flutter speed was shown to fall between two already certified stores, enabling certification authorities to clear the aircraft for the new store.
