A MSC Software Case Study
Scania, a manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses, faced significant challenges in its powertrain development process. The traditional approach of building physical prototypes to test gearbox and transmission components was expensive and time-consuming, often revealing design flaws too late. To address this, they partnered with vendor MSC Software to utilize its Adams multibody simulation software for virtual prototyping.
The solution from MSC Software involved creating detailed 3D models to simulate thousands of design alternatives and predict dynamic behavior, loads, and NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). This virtual approach allowed Scania to identify and solve quality issues 30 to 40 percent faster than with physical testing alone. The excellent correlation between simulation and physical measurements enabled Scania to optimize designs, significantly reduce the number of prototypes needed, and get products to market faster.
