Case Study: Thales Angenieux reduces lens inspection time with MSC Software’s Adams

Adams View helps to optimize time to inspect sub-assemblies for zoom lenses

Thales Angenieux, a manufacturer of precision lenses, needed a way to determine the worst-case position for adjusting the gap between the guiding rod and groove in zoom lens sub-assemblies. The company had been relying on highly experienced inspectors to make many time-consuming manual measurements, which made inspection slow and difficult.

Using MSC Software’s Adams simulation, Thales Angenieux modeled its lenses and predicted the worst-case position for each one. The predicted position matched trial-and-error results, and inspectors could then move each lens directly to that position for measurement. The company reduced inspection time and made the process possible for less experienced operators.
