Case Study: Saab improves NVH performance and shortens development time with MSC Software

A MSC Software Case Study

Adams Simulation Solves Stability Problem in Rotary Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Saving At Least 6 Months by Reducing Physical Testing

Saab used MSC.Software products, led by MSC.Nastran, to support noise and vibration analysis at its Noise and Vibration Center in Trollhättan, Sweden. The team needed early input on NVH behavior during new vehicle development so it could balance weight, safety, comfort, and handling while avoiding costly late design changes.

With MSC.Nastran and related SimOffice products, Saab ran structural dynamics, structural acoustics, frequency response, optimization, and design sensitivity studies, and also used MSC.ADAMS for multibody and powertrain simulation. Saab says the approach improved collaboration, helped the company make better decisions earlier, and saved at least one year of development time compared with 10 years earlier; on the Saab 9-3 convertible, the team completed more than 100 iterations and says the work was a cost saver that helped deliver a competitive vehicle.
