Actran Helps Reduce Time to Qualify Wheel Loader for Tough New Noise Standard from 1 Year to 3 Months

CNH Industrial used MSC Software’s Actran to address a new noise regulation in a key Latin American market that required about 6 dB(A) of reduction from its existing wheel loader design. The company had previously depended on physical testing, which required prototype lead times, several weeks of testing, and often left engineers with limited data to guide design changes.

Using Actran, CNH Industrial simulated alternative fan designs and acoustic performance to identify the main noise contributors and determine how to reduce blade-pass frequency and broadband noise while maintaining cooling performance. MSC Software’s tool helped the company meet the tighter noise specification in about three months, compared with at least a year if it had relied on physical testing, and CNH Industrial adopted Actran as part of its regular product development process.
