Texas Tech University MRI Software management program expands as energy costs shrink

Texas Tech University, a Tier I institution in Lubbock with more than 40,000 students, has cut its energy budget by $6 million and reduced its energy use index by 33% since 2000 despite adding two million square feet and growing enrollment 63%. To shift from reactive maintenance to persistent commissioning and capture ongoing savings, the university implemented the MRI eSight energy management system.

MRI eSight’s modular, scalable platform and analytics (including CUSUM) allowed a low‑cost pilot using existing meters and rapid integration with control systems, delivering fast ROI. The system flagged a $220,000 savings opportunity on day one (FY15), helped secure over $500,000 in FY16, and has driven more than $2.5 million in total energy savings to date; Texas Tech now integrates meters from 49 buildings and plans to expand to 200.
