Steel Fabricator Transforms Its Maintenance Operation with MPulse

Express Metal Fabricators’ St. George Steel Division is a 160-employee industrial steel fabricator (annual revenue $25–30M) whose eight-person maintenance team struggled with paper-based processes and an underused CMMS after an initial install in 1998 and an upgrade in 2009. When new maintenance coordinator Becky Newman joined in 2012 she was tasked with getting the team to use the system to track 500 equipment items, 42 trailers and numerous tools across 12 buildings, and to improve work order, inventory and purchase requisition visibility.

St. George upgraded to MPulse WorkFlow Edition with Advanced Inventory and Purchase Requisitioning and cloud hosting, and Becky used MPulse support and training videos to build a centralized tracking system and run actionable reports. The result was an automated, data-driven maintenance operation: equipment inventories are completed about 80% faster, repair-part purchase orders fell by roughly 50%, overall purchasing costs dropped 50%, requisition tracking improved, and the team is shifting from reactive repairs toward preventive maintenance.
