Schmidt + Clemens - Customer Case Study

Schmidt + Clemens, a family-owned producer of high‑alloy stainless steel with over 1,000 employees and multiple international sites, needed to replace obsolete time & attendance and access control systems and to implement a modular MES that would integrate with SAP for maintenance, shop floor scheduling, production control, DNC and machine data collection. After an evaluation, Schmidt + Clemens selected MPDV and its HYDRA MES to meet strict safety, SAP-interface and VDI 5600 compliance requirements.

MPDV deployed HYDRA modules — Time & Attendance, Access Control, Shop Floor Scheduling, Shop Floor & Machine Data Collection, DNC, Material & Production Logistics, Tracking & Tracing and CAQ — on a Windows Server/MS‑SQL platform with interfaces to SAP HR and PP and 30 HYDRA shop floor clients. Time & Attendance and Access Control went live in February 2008, enabling automated clock-in/out transfers to SAP HR, secured site access, automated upload/download of machine parameters, detailed planning for complex multi‑operation orders, and full documentation of production parameters for manufacturer certificates, delivering a homogeneous ERP‑MES link and rapid, standards‑compliant implementation by MPDV.
