A Motus Case Study
Amoskeag Beverages, the largest beverage wholesaler in New Hampshire, faced rising costs and compliance risk after a merger expanded its fleet from 45 to 127 vehicles. Sales reps drove company vehicles with no mileage tracking and liberal personal use, creating heavy administrative burden, potential IRS exposure, and high procurement, fuel, maintenance and insurance expenses. Amoskeag partnered with Motus to evaluate alternatives and deploy a FAVR (fixed and variable rate) reimbursement program.
Motus implemented a tax‑free FAVR reimbursement solution and GPS‑enabled automated mileage capture to replace manual trip logs. The change saved about 1.8 hours per employee per month (roughly 7.8 company workdays/month), boosted sales time and morale, and reduced vehicle costs—about $5,000 saved per employee annually and approximately $215,500 in total annual savings for Amoskeag—while improving IRS compliance.
