A Motive Case Study
B.C. Women’s Hospital, in partnership with the University of British Columbia, faced the challenge of providing sufficient medical simulation training to its residents. The hospital needed a way to expose trainees to high-stakes obstetric crises more frequently without pulling staff off the job or taking facilities offline. They partnered with Motive to explore VR as a viable solution for this crucial training.
Motive implemented two highly immersive, voice-driven VR medical simulations for obstetric crises. Using their adaptive content engine and conversational AI from IBM Watson, Motive created open-world scenarios where trainees could act naturally and see realistic consequences for their decisions. The successful project, funded by the UBC Strategic Investment Fund, has completed its first phase. This solution allows B.C. Women’s Hospital to train more staff more often and paves the way to expand this vital training to medical professionals in remote regions.
