Case Study: Hazel builds an AI co-worker for consumer brands with MotherDuck

A MotherDuck Case Study

Preview of the Hazel Case Study

Hazel launches an AI co-worker in January 2026 with MotherDuck

Hazel, an AI co-worker for consumer brands, needed to build a production-grade analytical backend for its platform. The team started with DuckDB locally but faced a challenge with concurrent writes when moving to a cloud environment, which local DuckDB could not support. They turned to MotherDuck to solve this production limitation.

MotherDuck provided a solution that preserved the development benefits of DuckDB while scaling it into a platform capable of handling concurrent writers. This enabled Hazel to deploy a hypertenant data stack where hundreds of dbt models on a central warehouse fan out to isolated per-customer databases. Using MotherDuck, Hazel's small team successfully shipped its production AI analytics platform, achieving rapid iteration in development and a secure, scalable architecture for production.
