Mosaic Technology Helps Orvis Go Green with Virtualization

Orvis, the long-running Vermont-based retail and mail-order company, wanted to consolidate IT infrastructure services, reduce power usage, and lower capital expenditures as part of its carbon-neutral goal. To address these needs, Orvis partnered with Mosaic Technology to design and implement a virtualization solution, centered on VMware Virtual Center and supported by a storage platform for the new environment.

Mosaic Technology consolidated 20 physical servers into three VMware ESX servers and recommended an iSCSI SAN to support both virtual and stand-alone systems. The result was significantly lower power consumption, a smaller physical footprint, simplified infrastructure management, and improved backup, replication, and disaster recovery planning. Orvis also received a rebate from Efficiency Vermont based on the energy savings achieved.
