Case Study: Kibu achieves sustainable, circular kids' headphones with Morrama

Kibu launches circular headphones for kids with Morrama and Batch.works in 2024

Morrama collaborated with Kibu, a venture focused on creating sustainable tech for children, to design the Kibu Circular Headphones. The challenge was to create a product for kids aged 5-11 that was not only durable and playful but also demonstrably sustainable, proving that circular and locally manufactured consumer electronics were achievable.

The solution implemented by Morrama was a modular headphone designed for on-demand 3D printing by Batch.Works. The design featured minimal parts with no screws or glue, making it easy for children to assemble, disassemble, and customize. It utilized recycled materials and Soluboard® recyclable PCBs to create a fully circular product where components could be returned, ground down, and reprinted. This project by Morrama successfully demonstrated local and transparent sustainable manufacturing, going on to win the Dezeen Award for sustainable design of the year.
