Abingdon Health develops plastic-free lateral flow tests with Morrama, cutting CO2 emissions by up to 80%

The customer, Abingdon Health, a UK diagnostics leader, was faced with the industry-wide challenge of the immense environmental impact of single-use plastic lateral flow test cassettes, of which over two billion are produced annually. They partnered with the design and innovation vendor Morrama to develop a sustainable alternative without compromising performance.

Morrama developed Eco-Flo, a plastic-free test cassette made using a novel dry-moulded plant fiber technology. The solution reduces full test kit plastic use by 62% and cuts CO2 emissions by up to 80% during manufacturing. Initial pilot production showed the cassettes integrated smoothly into existing assembly lines and even outperformed traditional plastic housings by delivering test results faster. This innovation is now being scaled for production.
