Empowering The Black Community on the Metaverse

Dsgnrswrkshp, a collective empowering the Black design community, sought to create an authentic and healing online gathering that could overcome Zoom fatigue and foster a strong sense of solidarity. To achieve this, they partnered with the virtual events platform MootUp to host their event in the metaverse.

MootUp provided a 3D virtual environment where attendees used customizable avatars for immersive networking through gestures, private chats, and video calls. This solution was highly successful, with the event seeing over 1,000 virtual world visits and nearly 300 private messages exchanged. On average, each attendee made 40 new connections, and the event received superb feedback, marking a significant step in building community and boosting Black representation in the design field.
