Electricity Maps partners with Monta for greener EV charging

Electricity Maps, a company providing real-time electricity carbon intensity data, faced the challenge of helping electric vehicle drivers reduce their charging emissions, as drivers had limited control over the grid's varying carbon intensity. They partnered with the vendor Monta to address this through its SmartCharge product.

Monta integrated Electricity Maps' data into its SmartCharge algorithm, allowing users to optimize their charging schedules for lower carbon intensity and higher renewable energy availability alongside price. As a result, nearly 70,000 green-optimized charging sessions avoided an average of 203g of CO₂ each. This delivered 4.5 times more CO₂ savings compared to sessions optimized for price only, significantly advancing greener EV charging.
