SAP creates custom Fiori typeface in 4 months with Monotype

The customer SAP needed a new typeface for its SAP Fiori user interface to replace the default Arial. The challenge was to create a font that offered robust typographic hierarchy for text-intensive screens while balancing performance with a friendly and trustworthy personality. They partnered with the vendor Monotype to develop this solution.

Monotype designed the custom typeface, SAP 72, which combined the sincerity of a Neo-Grotesque with humanist energy. The solution provided excellent legibility, a clear visual hierarchy, and full European language support. As a result of this collaboration, the SAP Fiori interface won a Red Dot Award in 2015, and the typeface itself won a Red Dot Award in 2017.
