Obama Foundation evolves Gotham across 3 custom styles with Monotype

The Obama Foundation faced the challenge of evolving its iconic Gotham typeface to match its growing mission and the launch of the Obama Presidential Center. They needed to refresh their brand identity to be more dynamic and flexible while retaining the essence of the typeface synonymous with their history. The Foundation partnered with its agency, Manual Creative, and the vendor Monotype to achieve this.

Monotype collaborated closely with Manual Creative to design three custom variations of Gotham: an Inline style for high-energy communications, a Slab style for themes of democracy, and a Stencil style for community engagement. This typographic system provided the Foundation with a cohesive yet versatile brand identity, allowing for clear and impactful communication across all its programs. The partnership was seamless, with Monotype's expertise ensuring the new styles maintained Gotham's integrity and legibility.
