England and Wales Cricket Board builds The Hundred’s brand identity with Monotype, reducing font width by 25%

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) partnered with Monotype to create a bold typographic identity for its new competition, The Hundred. The challenge was to shift perceptions and attract a younger, more diverse audience to cricket with a typeface that could convey fearless energy and optimism while being highly legible for various applications, including player shirts.

Monotype designed a custom monospaced display font, ECB Hundred, which was then adapted into condensed and hybrid versions for optimal shirt readability. The solution also included bespoke typefaces for the Manchester Originals team and the Dynamos junior program. Monotype's work provided a distinctive and confident brand voice that successfully helped the ECB reimagine cricket for a new generation of fans.
