Dorna Sports launches a 7-font MotoGP type family with Monotype

Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder for MotoGP™, sought to evolve the global racing championship's visual identity with a fresh, premium typographic system that captured its cutting-edge and adrenalized spirit. The challenge was to create a custom type family that would perform perfectly across a wide range of communication channels, with a focus on digital platforms and television broadcasts. They partnered with Monotype (through its Fontsmith studio) for this project.

Monotype designed a versatile custom font family consisting of six text fonts and one display style. The display face incorporated angular, sharp shapes and subtle racetrack-inspired curves to embody the brand's fierce personality, while the text fonts were optimized for maximum on-screen legibility. The result was a vibrant and charismatic typographic identity that successfully captured the "spirit of racing." The client reported a smooth collaboration and was highly satisfied with the solution, which achieved their goal of creating a common, strong element for all brand applications.
