A MongoDB Case Study
Zebra Technologies, a large tech company focused on B2B hardware and solutions, needed a data platform to support its IoT platform, Savanna. Their challenge was to capture, analyze, and act on data from a vast array of devices in real time, requiring a flexible data model and scalable architecture to handle huge, fluctuating volumes of traffic. They turned to vendor MongoDB, utilizing MongoDB Atlas and MongoDB Atlas Search on Google Cloud.
The solution implemented by MongoDB involved using the flexible document model of MongoDB Atlas as a scalable operational data store, integrated with Google BigQuery for analytics. This provided Zebra with the ability to scale horizontally and vertically with autoscaling, run efficient searches via Atlas Search at lower cost, and maintain high availability with zero-downtime updates. As a result, developers were freed to focus on high-value tasks, the platform achieved millisecond response times for real-time data, and Zebra gained the ability to perform predictive analytics to proactively prevent device issues for their customers.
