Roma Capitale manages 110 million documents with MongoDB

Roma Capitale, the local government body for the city of Rome, faced the challenge of modernizing its services for over four million citizens and tourists. Its decades-old content management system, built on a rigid relational database, was difficult to maintain and could not easily provide insights from the city's vast and disparate data. To transform Rome into a smart city, they needed a highly scalable and flexible data platform.

The solution was implemented using MongoDB Enterprise Advanced. MongoDB provided a flexible data model that allowed Roma Capitale to integrate over 110 million documents from different sources into a single, real-time view. This resulted in more efficient city operations, a jump from 15th to 4th place in the Global Smart Cities ranking, and the ability to quickly develop applications for improved civic services.
